The pros and cons of Language Immersion

Some attributes a successful immersion student needs are:
- being a self-driven learner
- being resilient when your marks may stop being straight-As (although, they don't drop as much as you expect them to - on average they only drop about a grade)
- be prepared to actually study
- be prepared to drop one co-curricular activity (trust us, you're going to need the extra time)
- you need to organise your time well (or learn to)
Some things that might mean you're not cut out for immersion:
- if you rely on others to help you learn
- if you're not prepared to work hard and put in those extra hours of study
- if you're just passing (or failing some things), since your grades will drop before they pick up a bit again, you will start failing most subjects
- if you like to complete assignments the night before

Pros:
- you become really confident with whatever language you are studying: it starts slow, but one day you can suddenly speak, write and understand the language so much better than you would have thought possible.
- you develop really great study habits which you can benefit from in the future
- the teachers really are out there to help you learn their language, and they are super supportive (and often funny!)
- it generally weeds out the really annoying people (harsh, but true)
Cons:
- pretty much just grades dropping at the beginning, although they do pick up again
